Black and Grey is the New Black! 4 chic kittens in need of homes

Hello, humans! If you’re regulars to The Cat Connection, you’ve probably met us. We’re the 4 adorable black and grey kittens currently available for adoption. The nice people here took us in when our mom’s caretakers became too overwhelmed to handle a gang of kittens. There were 6 of us, but 2 kitties have already found their forever homes. Lucky.

So, here’s the thing: a rumor got back to us that people are saying we’re just too plain to get adopted. Once we heard that, we were all like, “What? If by ‘plain’ you mean ‘chic’ and ‘sophisticated,’ then yeah, duh. Let’s bust out of here and show those people that’s not true!” But then the nice lady at The Cat Connection gave us some Jerry Kurlz to play with, so we sort of forgot about this whole thing for a while.

"Too plain? Let's bust out of here!" says Hans.
“Too plain? Let’s get ’em!” says Hans.

But now that we’ve knocked all the Jerry Kurlz underneath the fridge, let’s hash this out: unfortunately, it is true that solid-colored cats are less likely to get adopted. This is especially true of solid black kitties (and dogs!), and the bias is so well-documented in shelter situations that it even has its own name: Black Dog Syndrome.

The causes are varied, but all of them are silly. Some people insist that solid-colored cats are less expressive than those with more complex markings. Others are afraid that we won’t take as cute pictures because of the camera’s exposure and our dark fur. Still others could be a little put off by the historical association of black and grey cats with evil, but that may be going a little too far… we hope.

What people forget is that not only is our solid fur shiny, chic and glamorous, not only do we show up in photographs just as well as other kitties, and not only do we need good homes just as much as all wayward cats, but we have so much more to offer than just our coat color. We are tiny panthers in your house – full of energy, power and grace. We love to play, cuddle and love, just like every kitten, regardless of coat. If at first glance our coats seem too plain, please remember that we have a lot of love to give; it’s just in a more glamorous package.

So! Now that we’ve convinced you, here’s the deal!

We are all fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, socialized and ready to find our forever homes! Won’t you please come by the shop to meet us?

Chris and Presley!

Chris (L) & Presley (R) wonder where that nice lady with the food is, as this photographer obviously does not have any food on her.

Boo!

Boo desperately wants to reach the top of his enclosure. Maybe the humans have left it unlocked this time.

Hans!

Hans has had E-NOUGH of this cage. He's got places to be and cuddles to give. Somebody bust him out!

We are all about 14 weeks old, so what can you expect from us? Well, one word: PLAYING! We love to run, jump and climb, and we are fast! We have a whole lot of kitten energy that will need a suitable outlet until we mellow out a little (as if!). Oh yeah, another word: EATING! We have kitten-sized appetites and will eat, eat, eat. But we’ll reward you for your kind food-giving skills with loads of cuddles and affection.

And one last thing: we love to run and jump and use our bodies like little panthers should, so please let us keep our claws. Declawing is a serious, painful procedure that is not only unnecessary, but also adversely affects our quality of life. If you’re concerned about our claws, your furniture, or anything else, please just talk to the kind humans at The Cat Connection. They can provide you with all kinds of advice on keeping us kitties scratching only what’s appropriate. Help us be the best little panthers we can be by keeping our claws. We will love you for it.

If interested in adopting any of us, please just contact The Cat Connection for more information.
