All cats, especially those that spend most or all of their time indoors, need to play. Playtime with and without you will keep you kitty's mind sharp, adrenaline flowing, and muscles and organs working. Play comes in many varieties and cats need them all. This includes simple non-interactive toys like balls & furry mice as well as interactive wands and teasers that bring you and your cat together for some quality time.

A non-interactive toy is one that doesn't usually require a person to be on the other end of it. These include things like balls, catnip filled toys and lots of uniqe items that your cat can pick up and toss around. If your cat isn't prone to eating these types of toys, then having a few of them lying around your house at all times can keep your cat entertained while your away. Since each cat is an individual, you may have to try out a number of toys before you find a few that they really go for so don't give up easily. Also, cats may play with something one day and then refuse to look at it for weeks thereafter. That's just their finicky nature.

In general, they like things that are lightweight, shiny, make delicate noises and are easy to toss around. They also need variety so it's best to rotate toys out on a regular basis. Keep in mind that simple balls and catnip toys are made to supplement interactive playtime with you but won't take your place entirely. All cats need a few minutes a day of good one-on-one, interactive playtime with their owners to be completely satisfied.

Wands and teaser type toys are designed to really give your cat a thorough workout while providing good, fun (and funny) bonding time between you and your cat. Made from a variety of materials and available in all sorts of colors, sizes, textures and smells, interactive toys are appealing to all cats from kittens to seniors. They can be pulled along the ground, over furniture, and under covers for hours of play.

For safety's sake, all interactive toys should be put away when not in use. That way the toys stay fresh, appealing and in one piece!
