Meet Leila – A Loving Beauty! Breed: Russian Blue Mix Hi everyone, my name is Leila. I am very sweet natured and looking for my forever family. Everyone I have met here at the Cat Connection has been so great to me. I am a little shy around new company, but with a little love and patience, I will melt in your hands. I am an indoor kitty only please. And The Winners Are... November 2007 Cat Connection Winner About the Winner: "Baxter was found as a stray at a friend's apartment when he was 6 months old. He came running into the apartment when someone opened the door and came right up to me and jumped on my lap. He's been with me ever since. I can only describe Baxter as a cat-dog. He plays like a puppy and needs about as much attention. If you don't pay attention to him for a little while, he'll lie on his back against the wall and meow until you play with him. His favorite toys are any kind of soft ball (which he loves to play soccer with) or his "bee on a string" which is just a toy bee that I tied to a shoelace. His favorite games are chase, and getting soaked with the squirt gun in the bathtub. Last Chance on Holiday Goodies ![]() Has your Kitty been good this year? Although some cats may remain relatively calm throughout the Christmas season, this may not be the case for some kittens and young cats during this exciting time of the year. Their natural kitty cat urge to explore is in high gear and the unusual activity of the house can also keep their imaginations active. The decorated tree you worked so hard to achieve must look like toy heaven to your cat. You will be hard-pressed to stop her from exploring the tree - so instead, here are some tips to make that tree cat-safe. You can do this several different ways: Secondhand Smoke Affects Pets, Too If you're a smoker and a pet owner, it is probably not a good idea to smoke in the same room as your cat or dog. Just as second-hand smoke is harmful to other people and can even cause cancer in non-smokers it has also been associated with lung and nasal cancer in dogs. When the Kids Beg... Your daughter grabs your hand as you walk through the mall, pulling you toward the pet store window, where a group of kittens pounce on each other, rolling over the floor of the cage. Or, even worse, there's the moment when they show up with a neighborhood stray -- its tail wagging, or its purr reverberating -- and, faces alight with hope and anticipation, they voice those dreaded words: "Can we keep him?" Whose Turn is it to Clean the Litter Box? Suddenly, instead of being the center of attention, the pet is a pariah. "No, I walked the dog last. Now it's your turn." "I cleaned the litter box. You walk the dog." "But I cleaned the fish tank!" In many households, the pet is a shared commodity. If the benefits of the pet are to be equally distributed, so, too, must the responsibilities that are associated with the pet. The division of labor isn't always equal, nor is it always free from disagreement. But it's necessary ... both to avoid a Jerry-Springer-style shouting match every time the dog needs to go out, and to ensure that the dog actually does get out. Sometimes the system works itself out; sometimes it needs a little work. QUESTIONS? Call customer service toll free at 866-386-MEOW (6369), Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm CST. PLEASE NOTE
