The Cat Connection Cats of the Month

April 2006 Cat Connection Winner
Voted "Cat of the Month" by The Cat Connection Shop Cats

Owner: Matt and Sue Dunn
Cat's Name: Misty
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 10+

About the Winner:
Here is what Matt and Sue had to say about their gorgeous girl, Misty.

"Thank you so much for selecting Misty as the April cat of the month. I SO appreciate it and I think in her own cat way, she does too. Misty is a mystery in a way. When I first moved on my own in 1998, I saw a stray cat eating bread thrown out for the birds and cheese curls. My neighbors tried to help feed her but no one took her in (our lease said NO pets). I did take her in and fell in love with her right away. My landlord eventually saw her but he was nice about it because he was a cat person.

Misty loves to cuddle with me especially in the middle of the night. She is very sensitive and if I haven't felt well or was awakened from a bad dream, she will come up to me and sit with me and look concerned and place her head on my shoulder.

We don't know how old she is because she was a stray. We found her with a torn ear, very skinny, and desperate for love and attention. Now she is 13+ pounds. Our vet thinks she is about 10+ years old. Misty has recently been placed on thyroid meds for life and she is a playful and loving cat.

She LOVES sitting in windows and playing on the rug with furry mice and cat nip. She loves string too. Any kind. Ribbons, strings, show laces, etc. Although we do have another cat, a male, she tries to get along with him a he playfully bats at her when he passes by her sometimes.

Misty was looking out the window in this picture and was looking at what we think was a bug or a bird. She was mesmerized by it and I was watching her and enjoying her curiosity. This photo also was selected for the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper a couple of months ago. Thank you again!"

Congratulations Misty!

Voted "Cat of the Month" by Web Poll Participants

Owner: Cheri Bailey
Cat's Name: Iselin
Breed:
Himalayan/Persian Mix
Age: 4 years

About the Winner:

Here is what Cheri has to say about her gorgeous girl, Iselin.

"Iselin was adopted from a Hurricane Katrina rescue shelter last November, along with her best pal, Brie. I had seen Brie's photo on the internet and he was the one I was actually going to adopt. When I got to the shelter, Iselin jumped on me and would not let me put her down. She actually hopped on top of my back as I was leaning down to pet Brie! Her beautiful blue eyes and little pink nose and skin just drew me right in! She is the most affectionate kitty I have ever seen so needless to say I left the shelter with two cats that day!

She has more energy than any cat I have ever seen yet she turned 4 years old in December. Iselin loves to investigate so she has walked across every piece of furniture that I own. Each time I open a drawer, she has to hop in it and see what's there. She has learned how to open a door on my china cabinet and it stands wide open every day when I get home from work.

She enjoys being in the kitchen when I am cooking and likes me to pull “her” chair next to me so she can watch. It is a small kitchen stool that I painted cat paws on and she regularly sits on it at the back door and watches the birds. She loves to be held and when I pick her up, she places both paws around my neck and actually gives me hugs by rubbing her head on my neck and gripping her paws around me!  She lets me know when she wants me to pick her up by giving me love nips on my legs or if I walk past her she will reach out her paw and grab me.

Iselin follows me like a puppy so no matter what I do, she is right there next to me. Her favorite spot in the house is atop the aquarium where she tries her best to fish! There is a tiny space between the filter and the aquarium lid and she is forever trying to maneuver her paw in it! It barely fits in the hole, but she never gives up. The fish tank will mesmerize her for hours and it's such a joy to watch her taking it all in. She will cock her head sideways to watch the fish and it is really quite cute.

Iselin and Brie both sleep with me and her favorite spot is my pillow. I frequently wake up with a fluffy white tail wrapped around my face and she sleeps with her face banked up against mine. She loves to snuggle so I have to warn any guests that as soon as they sit down to expect a cat in their lap. She purrs so loud that people can hear her over the phone if I am holding her!

She is just the most precious cat I have ever known and she makes me laugh daily. We have a routine in the mornings where she will eat her breakfast and then she wants me to chase her. She will come barreling out of the kitchen and race up and down the hall with me behind telling her I'm going to get her. That just makes her run faster!  Although she only weighs about 7 pounds she sounds like an elephant when she is racing around.

She loves any kind of cat toy and anything that moves for that matter!  Her favorite toy is a catnip filled ball that has feathers coming out of the top. She will carry it around the house like it is her prize. She also has a fetish for shoe strings and just the other day as I was trying to put on my tennis shoes, as fast as I could tie them she was untying them with her teeth!  I laughed until I almost cried!  It took me about 10 minutes to finally get them tied. Plastic bags are another of her favorite things. Last Christmas I had a bag of candy inside another bag of gifts for my sister. On Christmas day when she pulled out the bag, candy poured out from both corners. We had to laugh because Iselin had struck. I don't know how she even knew that bag was there, but she found it. I have to be very careful and make sure all plastic bags are out of her reach or she will chew on the corners!  Speaking of bags, that is another one of her favorite things. The minute I bring in groceries and empty a bag, whether it is plastic or paper, she is inside it.  She will hide in it until I reach down and grab at her and then she will fly out of the bag and come right back for more.

Iselin is quite vocal too and I usually carry on conversations with her while I am taking a bath.  Water amazes her and she likes to sit on the edge of the bathtub every morning. She has definitely filled my heart with laughter and every day is new experience with her. She is a bundle of love and I am so fortunate to have found her and been able to rescue her from such a terrible tragedy as the hurricane. She is a constant source of joy for me!  My thanks to everyone who voted for her!"

Congratulations Iselin!
