The Cat Connection Cats of the Month

May 2006 Cat Connection Winner
Voted "Cat of the Month" by The Cat Connection Shop Cats

Owner: Daniel and Katia Macdonald
Cat's Name: Lilly
Breed: Domestic Short Hair - Calico
Age: 2 1/2 years old
About the Winner:
Here is what Daniel and Katia had to say about their gorgeous girl, Lilly.

"Lilly joined our family about 4 weeks ago. She has added a great new spirit to our daily life around home. This photo was taken while I was lying down on the kitchen floor, Lilly walks through a beam of sun that lightens up the floor and puts her into a spotlight.

She is in her terrible twos age at times, climbing all over every area of the house high and low. Not too much damage to things yet heheh... but she has managed to knock over a few things.

She really enjoys playing with her Cat Nip Toy that is tied to a string that we can drag around and make her jump for. One other toy is a small pink beanie baby type bear. She carries it around in her mouth like a baby hiding it in different places.

Lilly seems to sleep wherever she thinks its best at the time however she does have a large custom cat home in the living room area which has a fabulous pillowed area on top for those daytime naps. Since she is an inside cat at this time so far she can be regularly found looking out the window or the sliding door. Sometimes when we open the door and she'll sneak up really fast and jumps outside. "

Congratulations Lilly!

Owner: Jennifer Demers
Cat's Name: Socks
Breed: Domestic Short Hair - Grey Mackerel Tabby
Age: 12 1/2 years

About the Winner:

Here is what Jennifer has to say about her handsome boy, Socks.

"I got Socks when I was about 10 years old. He was born in my 2nd cousin's barn. We had to keep him when he was little because they were afraid that he would be trampled by the horses. My mom said that it was a temporary situation but we fell in love with him. He is getting older and he needs kitty stairs to get up on my bed, but he is still my little baby.

Socks used to be an outdoor cat until a few months ago because he kept getting in fights. We used to call him The Great Gray Hunter. He was an amazing hunter. Once he brought home a grouse and a rabbit. He was feared by many - even the coyotes. He is a fighter and he tries to act too cool for anyone, but he is a secret sweetheart who likes to cuddle when no rival kitties are looking. This is a picture of him dressed for a night on the town. He is very suave - the epitome of cool. The ladies love him.

He just had to have half of his ear amputated due to cancer, but he tells everyone Tyson did it. He is cool enough to pull off the look and he's a hat-wearing kind of cat anyways. I love this cool, confident look on his face in this picture - quite the laid-back.

Socks loves anything catnip. His current favorite toys are his catnip cigar and his cardboard Cat Scratcher. He keeps his claws immaculate. In fact, he is very big on hygiene. He has a 1 year old fluffy mess of a Maine Coon brother named Kramer who always manages to roll in something and Socks is constantly trying to help him groom himself.

Kramer and him don't get along too well. Socks is very graceful and suave and clean and loves to sit proud and tall. Kramer likes to jump on Socks' head, put him in a headlock and generally waddle around like he is intoxicated. I think Socks secretly loves him though, because I occasionally catch them sleeping together. Socks will get up when he sees me watching. I think Kramer keeps him young now that he can't go outside and hunt anymore.

Socks has 2 favorite parts of the house, my bed for sleeping at night and my father's recliner for sleeping during the day. My dad is not happy about the latter. He watches my dad like a hawk and as soon as my dad leaves the recliner to go to the bathroom or in the kitchen for a snack, he jumps onto it and goes to sleep before it even gets cold. It has become quite comical and if my dad is up for more than 2 seconds he will always jump on it without fail. It's gotten to the point where my dad has to put a towel on the chair everyday because of the hair.

Socks pretends to be tough. He won't snuggle with just anyone. He is a snuggler at night with me in bed though. And lately, now that he can't go outside he is particularly affectionate. He likes to squint up his eyes at me from across the room too. He basically rules the house. He decided when he wants to be cuddly and where he wants to be. He thinks he is human and prefers human food. He will climb right up onto you and walk on you like you're furniture to get to your food. I let him get away with everything so he is a spoiled baby. He gets the most presents on Christmas and I spend more on him than anything. He eats only natural pet food since his cancer. He is a very lucky guy...”

Congratulations Socks!
