The Cat Connection Cats of the Month
May 2005 Cat Connection Winners

Voted "Cat of the Month" by the Cat Connection Store Cats

Oliver and Daphne - Cat of the Month Winner

Owner: Andrea Erickson
Cat's Name: Oliver and Daphne
Breed: (Oliver) and (Daphne)
Age: 9 months (Oliver) and 2 years (Daphne)

About the Winner:
These are two special kitties! Daphne is Oliver's mom and they are just so sweet together. They are always giving each other baths and snuggling up together. When Andrea's daughter leaves her dresser drawer open you can always find them together cuddled up in the clothes, which makes a lot more work for Andrea considering she has to re-wash all the clothes in the drawer because they become coated with hair! But how can you resist such an adorable sight!

Daphne and Oliver love to chase each other full speed around the house. They are quite the acrobatic pair, we are told. Andrea tells us that they appear to fly over everything! Oliver seems to be obsessed with the dishwasher because every time Andrea opens it and pull the drawer out he'll jump in the back and lays down the second she turns away.

Daphne has a squeaky little voice. Some times she'll walk around the house squeaking until someone finally decides to come and give her attention. She will not stop until she gets what she wants. The two of them love to be in the bathroom when Andrea showers. Daphne likes to actually sit in the shower and bat at the water while Oliver watches from the edge. He isn't quite brave enough to get wet.

Oliver's favorite pastime is walking around the house looking for things he can tip over. He loves to spill water glasses! One time he spilled a candle and got wax all over his back leg! It took two weeks and a lot of careful cutting for it all to come off. The two of them make a perfect mischievous team! When its time for bed though, each of them have to snuggle up right next to Andrea for a good nights sleep.

Scooby - Cat of the Month Winner

Owner: Ilona Welacha
Cat's Name: Scooby
Breed: Ragdoll
Age: 3 years old

About the Winner:
Meet Scooby. He is a handsome two year old Ragdoll. On June 9 th 2005, Scooby will be a part of Ilona's family for three years. Three years prior, Ilona lost her dear companion Toby to Rainbow Bridge .  The family was devastated. Daisy, Ilona's other cat, was really sadden by the loss of her best friend. So, Ilona decided to find her a new playmate and went to the Animal Shelter to find a new kitty to adopt.

Ilona tells us that to adopt a pet from the shelter she went to, you need to fill out an application in order to see all of the animals inside. While she was filling out the application, a man walked in with a cat in his arms. She and her daughter at the same time said, "Awwww"!!

Ilona's daughter asked the nice man if she could hold him.  "It was love at first sight." The man said he was giving him up for adoption, and asked Ilona if she wanted him. Without a second thought, she dropped the application and walked out with her new friend. Scooby was already neutered and declawed when they took him home.

Scooby is a spunky little guy and loves his catnip. He also loves to play with fuzzy mice and enjoys throwing them up in the air.  He has one special toy that he loves the most called the Swizzle Bird. It does require the help of a human to play, so Ilona will twirl the swizzle bird around in a circle and Scooby will jump into it as if he were jumping rope. The higher up she twirls, the higher he jumps.  The family loves to cheer him on because that is when he really starts to show off.

Scooby also loves his quiet time by laying in the window watching the birds and soaking up the sun. When it comes to bedtime, he shares a room with Ilona's daughter. Scooby will snuggle up with her and will purr until they both fall asleep.  Ilona feels truly blessed to have Scooby in their lives.

Jake - Cat of the Month Winner

Owner: Amy Lisonbee
Cat's Name: Jake
Breed: DSH
Age: 8 Months

About the Winner:
We are told Jake is quite the character!  Jake was given up to the PAWS shelter in Lynwood , WA because his previous owner had too many cats to care for. He was only there for a day before Amy found him there and instantly fell in love. Amy tells us "Waiting the period they make you wait was agony!" She was ready to give Jake the life he deserved in his new forever home.

Amy has had many cats over her lifetime and considers Jake to be by far the funniest, softest and sweetest cat she has ever had the pleasure of taking into her home.  He is fond of ducking underneath the area rugs to hide... he thinks he's very sneaky. Jake sleeps on the bed, right on the pillows every night, but what makes him special, is that he always has to have at least one paw touching Amy's face or her boyfriend's face. Too cute!

Jakes favorite thing to do is to get a running start and surprise his brother by getting himself a "piggy-back ride." I imagine that would be a very funny thing to see. His favorite toys are the fun little furry mice that he can pick up with his mouth and run around the house with. He also likes the little balls that light up when he knocks them around.

His favorite spot in his house is right in front of the fireplace but, he doesn't just lay down like any "normal" cat... he lays belly up, legs spread and happy as can be. Jake also loves to talk and to be the center of attention at all times. He can be quite the clever kitty as we were told… he knows what he wants and exactly how to get it.

Amy tells us Jake is very much like a dog.... he'll follow her into every room and barely ever leaves her side.  If Amy leaves the room and he hasn't notices, you can hear him talking as thought he is calling for her.... just say his name and he comes a running.

Sylvester - Cat of the Month Winner

Owner: Curt and Sara Warren
Cat's Name: Sylvester
Breed: Domestic Long Hair - Tuxedo
Age: 4

About the Winner:
Sylvester is a 5-year-old female tuxedo cat who definitely considers herself more human than cat. She loves being around people and loves to get attention. Like many cats, though, it's only when she's in the mood and it's always on her terms. She is a soft-coated, feminine feline that spends many hours grooming and taking care of her beautiful hair. She loves flowers, so much that when they are around the house, her owners, Curt and Sara, really have to keep an eye on her.

When Sylvester is in the mood to play, she can often be found scurrying out of nowhere to "attack" your feet. This means it is time to play, whether you like it or not. Some of her favorite toys are not even really toys at all. She loves the sound of paper being crumpled into a ball. To Sly, it is the sound of a new toy being created. She will chase the crumpled paper balls around the house until she is tired. She also enjoys boxes, bags, baskets, or anything else she can fit her body inside. But her absolute favorite toy is a fluffy white ball that she always seems to go back to no matter what other new toys she receives. On most occasions, playtime ends early as she tends to get her toys stuck under the couch. She always appreciates Curt and Sara's help in retrieving them.

Sylvester loves to sit upright on her behind. When she's tired, she will lie flat on her back with limbs stretched out.  Curt and Sara have determined she has abs of steel, as she can easily move from laying back to sitting upright, as if doing a sit-up. It's quite entertaining and amazing to those who have seen it from what we are told. Sylvester is also a big fan of television.  When sitting on the couch - again, upright - she will often sit directly facing the TV screen.  Curt and Sara will often glance over to look at her, only to find her transfixed with what is on the screen.

We are also told that if you try to talk to her while she's busy, she will look over at you, meow, and go right back to what she was doing. She is a very talkative cat at times, sometimes seeming to hold long "conversations" with whoever is talking to her.  She loves to snuggle and will often jump into bed with Curt and Sara .  She can usually be found lying between them. Sylvester  is full of love and will always give any new visitors a chance to win her over.
