The Cat Connection Cats of the Month

December 2004 Cat Connection Winner
Voted "Cat of the Month" by The Cat Connection Shop Cats

Owner: Meredith Sonson
Cat's Name: Sunny
Breed: Domestic Shorthair Tabby
Age: 12

About the Winner:
Meredith lived in Miami Beach, Florida at the time she adopted Sunny. She wanted to get a cat and didn’t even think twice about getting her new pet and family member at the City Pound so she could save an animal's life and to give an less fortunate animal a wonderful life full of love and affection and provide him with a home that is safe and nurturing and where he would have nothing to fear. Some people think Sunny is more of a Bobcat because he's the size of an average dog. He’s tall and muscular and is sweet as can be. He was named Sunny because it symbolizes being happy, cheerful, warm, bright and upbeat. What Meredith loves most about Sunny is that he is who he is and the Sonson’s genuinely understand and love him so much. The Sonson Family has been together for a long time and have grown so much together.

Sunny only likes to chase after catnip bubbles or anything with catnip in it. He is not big on toys because he is considered a very sophisticated and proper feline. Sunny likes to sit with his paws crossed and does not particularly like for anyone to touch him unless it is Meredith or someone he is very familiar with. When he wants "rubs"(a massage) he will let Meredith know by casually walking by and then sitting in front of her with his back towards her!

He hates to be rushed when he's eating or even to have people around while he eats. We are told that Sunny is on of the pickiest eater Meredith has ever met. He will not eat tuna or beef, but his absolute favorite foods to eat are pasta and breadsticks with spaghetti sauce, balance bars and bananas!

His favorite hangouts are Meredith’s bed and his cozy lounge chair on the patio. He can most always be found napping in either of those spots. Meredith always says that if Sunny were a person, he would definitely be smoking a pipe and wearing a plaid hat while reading the newspaper. He is so handsome, smart, comical and lovable. Meredith can't imagine life without him. If she’s ever feeling bad, she’ll just lay down with Sunny and he always brightens her day!

Owner: Jennifer Bond
Cat's Name: Clyde aka Fuzzy kitty
Breed: Maine Coon
Age: 1 1/2

About the Winner:
Jennifer used to work at Lonestar Steakhouse, which happened to be right next to a pet store. Someone put four kittens in a box and dropped them off behind the pet store. Jennifer and her boss found the kittens under his truck covered in oil, dirt and fleas. The pet shop would not take them and was planning on calling the pound the next morning to come and catch them. Her boss took one kitten home to his daughter, a co-worker took one home with her, and Jennifer took the other two home with her. Her best friend Ashley kept one of them, whom is now called Bonnie and Jennifer kept her brother Clyde. Now Fuzzy Kitty is a spoiled house cat that lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jennifer told us “He's the best thing I've ever found in a box and I love him very much!”

His favorite toys are defiantly feathered mice. He likes to throw them up in the air and will chase them around for hours. He walks around with a mouse in his mouth and if you throw one he will run after it and retrieve it. Fuzzy Kitty does not have a favorite spot in the house in particular; he normally is wherever Jennifer is. Most often you can find him in the window as he loves to watch the birds and squirrels running around outside. On several occasions he has lunged straight into the glass. The squirrels have figured out that fuzzy can't get to them so they’ll tease him and climb on the screen and sit on the windowsill cracking open sunflower seeds.

Whenever Jennifer cooks, he’ll sit on the counter and watches her, as he loves to be wherever the action is. When Jennifer’s boyfriend and his friends come over to play poker, he’ll sit right in the middle of the table or in his own chair. He greets her at the door when she comes home, he can hear the keys coming up the stairs and Jennifer can hear him meowing before she even get to the door!

He loves to snuggle and purrs very loud. If Jennifer stops petting him even for a second, he will nip at her hand very gently to get her attention. He is also a very vocal cat; he lets you know when he wants attention. Fuzzy Kitty is a big boy and is a very good eater but never seems to gain any weight. He is very muscular and has enormous paws.

Yes, enter my cat in the contest!
