WHAT: The Cat Fancy Giants – Magnificent Maine Coon Cats & The Smallest of The Pedigreed Breeds - Enchanting Singapuras - A CFA Allbreed Cat Show

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, May 7 & 8, 2005

WHERE: Resistol Rodeo Arena, 1700 Rodeo Drive, Mesquite, TX 75149

HOURS: 9 to 5 Saturday; 9 to 4 Sunday

- Children under 5 Admitted Free!

BENEFICIARIES: The DFW Sheltie Rescue Group and Kittico Cat Rescue. The National Maine Coon Cat Club will make a donation to the DFW Sheltie Rescue Group (who are providing stewards for our show) and to Kittico Cat Rescue from the proceeds of the show. Spectator admission fees contribute greatly to the size of the donations.

KITTICO CAT RESCUE will have rescued cats and kittens 4 months old and older available for adoption at the National Maine Coon Cat Club Show. KittiCo Cat Rescue is a small, non-profit organization dedicated to helping stray and feral cats with two staff people and approximately 30 volunteers. The KittiCo Cat Rescue Mission Statement is to provide veterinary care, food, and shelter for unwanted, abandoned, and feral cats and surrounding areas; to provide an adoption service for homeless adoptable felines; to help reduce the stray cat population of Dallas and surrounding area; to educate the public on the prevention of cruelty to animals, pet abandonment, and responsible pet ownership. COMPETITION: As many as 225 pedigreed cats representing examples of more than 37 recognized breeds will compete for awards given by six distinguished judges from the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. (CFA). The judges hail from Texas, California, Florida, New Mexico and Oklahoma and will evaluate exhibits competing at the show from all over the United States and Canada. Cat Breeds such as Abysinnians, American Shorthairs, Balinese, Birmans, Burmese, Maine Coon Cats, Persians, American Wirehairs, British Shorthairs, Chartreux, Cornish and Devon Rex, Egyptian Maus, Japanese Bobtails, Siamese, Singapuras, the recently recognized Sphynx Cats (hairless cat) and the curly-haired Selkirk Rex are expected to compete for ribbons, rosettes and the titles of Grand Champion, Grand Premier and Regional and National Awards.

A MAINE COON CAT SPECIALTY RING on Saturday and MAINE COON HALL OF FAME presentations both days will showcase the Maine Coon Cat Breed from kittenhood through mature adult cats. This year's show also features the enchanting Singapura breed of cats. A SINGAPURA SPECIALTY RING will be judged on Sunday, May 8. Singapura is the Malaysian word for Singapore. The streets of Singapore are the origin of this breed. They are nature's combination of both the ticked coat pattern and the dark brown color, both of which are indigenous to South East Asia. The breed was brought into the U.S. in the early 1970s by Hal and Tommy Meadow, expatriates moving home. They are the opposite of the Maine Coon Cats....a small breed weighing only 6 to 8 pounds.
